YS/YA Paraprofessional II (Part Time)

Due to a retirement of a long-time staff member in the YS/YA Departments, the Homewood Public Library seeking to hire two exceptional individuals to join our growing and engaging YS/YA team.
The Paraprofessional II works under the supervision of the Head and Assistant Head of the Youth/Young Adult Services Department and provides support for departmental offerings. This position is responsible for assisting patrons, with a focus on providing quality customer service and patron assistance. This position helps with material processing and programming. The Paraprofessional II tasks include collection management, including weeding, deselection and display creation as needed, outreach, and will need to work well collaboratively as part of a team, as well as independently.
 
The ideal candidate will have an Associate's Degree, Library Technical Assistant Degree, or comparable combination of education and experience working with youth, and/or programming, preferably in a library setting. Additionally, the successful candidate will need to have the ability to learn and develop additional related skills as needed.
 
The ability to interact in a positive manner with children and teens, diverse populations, community groups, staff and patrons alike is imperative.
 
This is an excellent opportunity for a student to get great experience and join a positive, patron oriented, growing team. Some evening and weekend work is required (roughly one evening week, one weekend/month) and there is some schedule flexibility.

Adult Services Librarian II (Full Time)

 
Hours: 35 Hours/week
Salary: $23.07/hour, moves to $23.70/hour July 1
Due to a retirement of a long-time staff member in the Adult Services Department, the Homewood Public Library seeks a full-time librarian to join our Adult Services team.
The Librarian II works under the supervision of the Head of Adult Services and provides support for departmental offerings. This positions provides excellent customer service in both one-on-one and service desk settings. Duties include collection development (ordering and weeding material), creating displays, and providing readers’ advisory. The Librarian II also has substantial outreach and community engagement responsibilities, and is involved in departmental programming.  The ideal candidate will have a commitment to excellent public service and be comfortable with a variety of reference resources and technologies. The ability to interact in a positive manner with adults of all ages and backgrounds is necessary for this position. Candidates with senior outreach experience in particular are preferred.
The successful candidate will have an MLS/MLIS from an ALA accredited library school, with 2-3 years of experience, preferably in a public library setting. Familiarity with and ability to use basic library computer resources including, but not limited to: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher), integrated library systems and various library related vendor software (ordering, databases, room booking, etc.) and familiarity with internet resources and web applications are also required.
Additionally, the candidate must possess excellent customer and public service skills, including a sense of humor, have the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, and be able to work both on a team and independently. Candidates must be open to the ideas, opinions, and feedback of others, be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and be committed to professional development and continuing education.
Finally, the Librarian II requires a valid Illinois driver’s license and ability to provide transportation to off-site activities as needed. Regular evening and weekend hours are required with some flexibility. Assisting in scheduling emergencies may also be necessary.
 
Benefits:
Homewood Public Library offers 2 weeks of paid vacation, 12 sick days, and 4 personal business days per year. The Librarian II also receives IMRF enrollment, health, vision, dental, and life insurance.
