MINIMUM STARTING SALARY, $28.50/HOUR ($51,870/year)


The Homewood Public Library seeks an enthusiastic, experienced, customer service oriented team player with youth/young adult experience, preferably with a strong emphasis on programming, to join our well established and well respected, engaging, youth/young adult team for this newly created position.

The Assistant Department Head is responsible for assisting with staff needs, collections, services, programs and activities in the Youth and YA departments. This position is responsible for working with the Department Head to recommend expenditures, physical and virtual resources and space use in YS/YA, as well as fostering and developing relationships with schools and community stakeholders and collaboratively developing long and short-term departmental goals with staff and Administration.

Duties include, but are not limited to: Providing knowledgeable reference and readers/media advisory services, assisting with/ maintaining scheduling for department and staffing coverage, contributing to the management team in a collaborative atmosphere and serving as a PIC as needed, maintaining familiarity with bargaining unit contract as a co-manager of union staff with Department Head.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2-5 years in youth or young adult service in a public library, a demonstrated passion for working with youth/young adults, demonstrated leadership skills and strong work ethic, and an ALA accredited MLS. Additionally, preference will be given to candidates with supervisory experience and/or a demonstrated flare for programming and/or another area of expertise necessary for success working with youth/young adults.

PARAPROFESSIONAL II, Minimum starting salary $17.10/hour


The Homewood Public Library seeks a creative person to oversee and develop the library Makery which houses: a Glowforge, a 3D printer, a Cricut, a Mac computer, sewing machines, a large scale printer and more. This position requires a high level of familiarity with at least one to two pieces of the equipment (Glowforge experience a plus) and some level of familiarity with the other pieces, as well as a willingness to learn and then teach others.

The successful candidate will have 1-3 years related experience. Additionally, this position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.

The successful candidate will work to develop programs related to use of the equipment in the space, work with appropriate staff related to use of the equipment and/or marketing programs and trainings. This is a part-time position that reports to the Library Director while working with various departments and staff as appropriate. There is the possibility of additional hours as demand increases.
