Home Delivery Service Policy
The Homewood Public Library (HPL) delivers library materials to residents of Homewood who are unable to travel to a library due to a disability, impairment, illness, or impaired driving ability.
Qualifications
- Must be a resident of Homewood.
- Resident either has a permanent, long-term disability, or has a temporary condition that will last for six weeks or more.
- Resident has a valid library card in good standing.
- Resident does not have personal transportation to HPL.
Types of Materials Delivered
- Materials in all formats are available including books with regular and large print, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, video games, and magazines.
- SWAN materials in all formats are available including books with regular and large print, DVDs, CDs, audiobooks, and magazines.
- Interlibrary materials in all formats are available including books with regular and large print, DVDs, CDs, and audiobooks. There may be a $3 charge for items obtained through this service.
- Assistance with research questions can be obtained from Adult Services staff or through the reference desk via phone, email, or the library website.
- Home delivery patrons or Adult Services staff select materials, based on the reading and viewing preferences indicated by the individual’s discussions with Adult Services staff.
Conditions for Home Delivery
- Adult Services staff deliver to Homewood residents who are living at home, in an assisted living facility, retirement community, or supervised living facility.
- If a resident can drive, they are not eligible for home delivery services.
- Home delivery services will cease if the Adult Services staff feels harassed or anxious about their safety. If home delivery services cease, the patron will be notified.
- Library materials in all formats are checked out for two months.
- Home delivery occurs once a month, depending on Adult Services staff availability.
- Home delivery will cease during inclement weather as determined by the Head of Adult Services. Patrons will be notified of this.
- Library items will be delivered to an agreed upon location that has been determined by both the patron and Adult Services staff.
- Library materials are checked out to the patron’s card with the understanding that the patron is fully responsible for materials in their possession. Adult Services staff are not authorized to provide any other errands or services to home delivery patrons.
- Home delivery patrons will not accrue late fines, but will be responsible for lost or damaged materials.
- Home delivery services may be discontinued if three (3) consecutive delivery dates are missed without notice.
- HPL reserves the right to reassess any applicant for eligibility as well as the right to cancel home delivery services at any time.
House Call Environment Required for Home Delivery
Patrons requesting home delivery services must provide a safe and appropriate environment for Adult Services staff who make deliveries to their home. Adult Services staff may choose to not enter a home, to leave a home immediately, and/or recommend suspension of the home delivery service if any of the following conditions exist:
- Pets are not confined (with the exception of service animals trained to assist a disabled person) and/or are aggressive.
- A clear and safe path to the home.
- Any person in the home presents threatening behavior.
- Any person in the home uses abusive or obscene language, makes obscene gestures, or displays obscene images.
- Any person in the home harasses the Adult Services staff.
- Any person in the home exhibits signs of illness that may jeopardize the health of the Adult Services staff, and the library has not been notified of the illness.
- Any person is engaging in any illegal activity in the home at the time of the home delivery.
- Any library material currently in the possession of the home delivery patron appears to have been willfully defaced, mutilated, or damaged while in the possession of the home delivery patron.
- Conditions in the home are unsafe or unsanitary.
